Everything Everything: Book Review (Spoilers)

I would like to start off by hoping you are having a good day and that I have made you smile! So recently the blog has been to the hospital and got a new face lift. I added some new things to the side to make it easier to follow me and to see what books I am working on at the moment. I also started to do tags, and I don’t know why I haven’t done them before now. Let me know how you think the surgery went.

Let me tell you, I hate the doctor. The doctor is the one place where I dread going.  Luckily, my mom only takes us once every two year (I know that’s a shame) so I can’t say that I don’t go. On the other hand, I love to be alone, in my room, secluded away from everyone else in my life sometimes. The thing is, I could not remain in my room all day long, just surrounded by two people and a window.

Title: Everything Everything

Author: Nicola Yoon

Publisher: Delacorte Books for Young Readers

Released: September 1, 2015

Pages: 320 (Hardcover)

Synopsis: My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla. But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly. Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.  7353006

About the Author: Nicola Yoon grew up in Jamaica (the island) and Brooklyn (part of Long Island). She currently resides in Los Angeles, CA with her husband and daughter, both of whom she loves beyond all reason. Everything, Everything is her first novel.

What is SCID: SCID, Severe Combined Immunodeficiency, is a primary immune deficiency. The defining characteristic is usually a severe defect in both the T- & B-lymphocyte systems. This usually results in the onset of one or more serious infections within the first few months of life. These infections are usually serious, and may even be life threatening, they may include pneumonia, meningitis or bloodstream infections. Children affected by SCID can also become ill from live viruses present in some vaccines. These vaccines (such as Chickenpox, Measles, Rotavirus, oral polio and BCG, etc.) contain viruses and bacteria that are weakened and don’t harm children with a healthy immune system. In patients with SCID however, these viruses and bacteria may cause severe, life-threatening infections.

In other words, you basically can’t do things normal people can’t do. You can’t go outdoors and can’t go into public without proper equipment. The basically live in a bubble, which is one of the other names of the illness: Bubble Boy Disease. If you would like to find out more about SCID, go here.

Why I Wanted to Read This Book: I actually included this book in my September Book Releases 2015. I went to Target with my parents because we needed to look for TV stands. I couldn’t help myself from wondering into the Book/Movie section of the store. I saw this book and I couldn’t help myself from picking this book up. I automatically picked it up, checking to see if they had signed copies because Target does that every so often, and went to the movies. I also got The Spectacular Now movie and watched it that day.

Rating: On Goodreads, I gave this book a 5/5 stars. In reality, I gave it a 10/5 because this book was basically perfection. I was reading this the day that my copy of Lady Midnight by: Cassandra Clare was supposed to come. This book killed me. Especially in the ending. Can we just talk about when Maddy finds out that she really doesn’t have SCID but her mom has problems with losing her daughter after she lost her son and husband? That part killed me. If I was in class and doing a report for this book, I would have to say that was the CLIMAX. See, I do pay attention.

My Favorite Part: I love the part when Maddy and Olly run off to Hawaii after Maddy sees the picture of her and her family in Hawaii. I love that scene because you can see that Maddy really doesn’t have a problem but you don’t want to jinx yourself yet. I loved reading the scenes with Olly and Maddy together because they are perfect for each other. The only scene I don’t like between them was when they were in Hawaii and they basically have sex. Olly ask for a condom and he’s shocked that Maddy has one. The whole scene is like two or three pages long. I’m warning you now, don’t read that part on the bus.

My Least Favorite Part: When Maddy’s heart dies. While in Hawaii, Maddy tells Olly that she really isn’t taking some pills. Just soon after, Maddy’s heart dies and she is rushed to the hospital. I thought to myself: Maddy can’t die. There is no way. They better not put in Maddy’s funeral at the end. Maddy better get better. Thank god she did because I would have no idea what to do after that. The only good part that came out of that scene was the fact that Maddy finds out from that doctor that she doesn’t not have SCID.

Could You See It As A Movie: I would love to have this as a movie. I think people would see this as The Fault In Our Stars of that time. This movie would make me cry like a baby because of everything that actually happens in the book. I love this book way too much. I could only pick out one actor for Olly and I would love it if this was a movie if it was him. For Olly, I would have to pick Taylor Lautner because I could see him saying that he’s the sexiest one there and no on is better looking than him. And trust me, many people would thank me for that!

Let me know what you think of the book if you have read it! I know for sure that I would hate to have SCID but I have all the respect for the people who do have this disease.

Happy Reading,

❤ Ann

    1. I love everything that happened in Hawaii. Well, maybe not that one part in Hawaii but these two are too cute. I’m excited to watch the movie as well. Let’s hope that they got the movie close to the book!

  3. I just finished this last night. I normally go straight from one book to another, but I don’t want to. I love this ending. I loved this book and I’m content to stay right in my after book glow. I only have to wait 4 days until the movie!!! What was the gift the mom gave Maddy towards the end of the book?

    1. Hope you enjoy the movie! I’m waiting to see the movie until later this month since I have so much going on. I don’t remember what the gift was for some strange reason. This book is literally the definition of perfection! I’m like you, I like to go book after book after book but something about this one was different.

  4. I just re-read that part and her mom got her a phone. It was “open to a weather app with the forecast for the week – bright and sunny.” I almost wondered if the mom got her the plane ticket. How would she be able to find Olly in New York? Have you read another book since this one?

    1. I think I remember the phone as the gift after you said that. I wondered that too. I sort of want a next book to see if Olly is found and if Maddy actually goes to New York. I have only read the book once but since the movie is coming out soon, I want to reread the book.
