Make Me Read It Read-a-thon Wrap Up

So I participated in Val @ theinnocentsmiley and Ely @ teaandtitles read-a-thon this past week. I should probably say that I attempted this read-a-thon. Somehow, I ended up falling into a reading slump while the read-a-thon was taking place. Of course. Out of all weeks. But since the event took place last week, I thought I would still give you my updates from the read-a-thon. I had fun though. I really had fun. This was my first ever read-a-thon and I have got to say, I really enjoyed it. I didn’t have the best luck with it but I know when another read-a-thon comes up, and I actually have time for it, I am going to do it. So I ended up only reading one book and getting in the middle of another. Yeah. And it isn’t like the books were bad. I just had way too much on my plate. That Monday I had to go to the orthodontist to begin the process of getting my braces off. Wednesday and Thursday, I had band practice from 8 to 2. Wednesday also brought along another orthodontist appointment to get my braces off and my sister got three teeth pulled. Saturday brought a trip out of town to an Apple store because I had to get the stupid battery changed in my phone. I tried to read through it all but I couldn’t. I got really bored and I just was uninterested in reading. 

When I asked you guys to vote, you guys voted. I actually calculated the votes for each book a little differently than what the results said. I’m not sure how I really calculated it but I ended up getting 30 votes. I had previously planned on reading about 4 or 5 books off the list but that worked out great. But there were a lot of them that I was really excited to read so I’m really happy you guys voted for them. Instead of going into a bunch of detail, I thought I would go ahead and give you the order that you all voted for them!

If you have been reading my post for the past couple days, you would know that A Thousand Pieces of You was the first book I read. I had previously read the book a few years ago but when my mom bought me the other two books for Christmas, I knew that I would have to read the book again. I took the opportunity to put the book up for you all to vote. As soon as I saw that it got the highest votes, I got super excited!

Basically, A Thousand Pieces of You follows the story of this girl named Marguerite Caine who’s father was just killed. Her parents are world famous physicists and the top suspect was one of their assistants, Paul. Her parents were best known for their theory on other dimensions in the universe and that people would be able to travel back and forth between them. When her parents other assistant Theo gets hold of the firebirds that can get Paul, Marguerite wasn’t going to let the opportunity go to waste. Who knows what Marguerite could get into when she enters the unknown. I have a full review posted here, but if you check it out, beware of some spoilers. 

I have also started I’ll Give You The Sun and I still don’t know how I feel about it. Noah and Jude are twins and as they grew up, they sort of grow apart. They can’t really do anything without trying to beat each other. As kids though, they wouldn’t do anything without each other. Noah and Jude are both talented in the field of art. Noah would be willing to show anyone his work. Jude though, she would want to keep it to herself. The both is told in both Noah and Jude’s perspective and I really enjoy the writing of the whole book. 

I’m still going to give the other books a chance one of these days but with school starting soon, who knows when it might happen. I’m planning on finishing I’ll Give You The Sun really soon, probably as soon as I finish this post. But I really enjoyed doing this read-a-thon and I hope I get to do the event next year.
