School is coming soon. You know when you are sort of ready for something to happen but you don’t want it to come? That’s how I feel about this show. That’s how I feel about school and this show. Season 1 was already interesting enough that I thought couldn’t get more interesting but season 2 tops it. Don’t worry though. If you aren’t caught up, don’t worry. I’m not including spoilers on this review!

On her birthday, Clary Fray discovers a surprise concerning her life. The teenager is not who she thinks she is — she comes from a long line of human-angel hybrids, called Shadowhunters, who hunt demons. After her mother is kidnapped, Clary is thrust into the world of demon-hunting. Clary relies on mysterious Jace and fellow hunters Isabelle and Alec to help her navigate the dark world. While living in this new world among creatures like vampires and werewolves, Clary’s best friend Simon helps her uncover answers that could help her find her mother. The fantasy show is based on a series of young adult books by Cassandra Clare.

My Review:
Clary Fray just had her life flipped around, all over again. Her father is Valentine Morgenstern, an evil Shadowhunter who wants to destroy the whole down world. She also found out that Jace Herondale is her brother. With the help of her Shadowhunter friends Izzy and Alec Lightwood, vampire best friend Simon Lewis, high warlock of New York Magnus Bane, and a lot more allies, she hopes to destroy Valentine before he could hurt anybody else. But as a Shadowhunter, Clary can never let her guard down or things will happen right before her eyes.
I seriously need to find out why I keep watching this show. I don’t know why. It’s terrible in so many ways but at the same time, I have this gut feeling telling me to continue on with the series. Maybe that is why I have sat through two seasons of this show. Maybe it is because there are so many attractive guys in the show. I don’t know. But I’m just really questioning if I am watching the third season or not.
I will say that the characters are developed nicely and that they really do seem to grow through the show. All the characters BUT Clary. No offense to Katherine McNarama, but I just find Clary so annoying and just how should I put this… Emotional. I understand everything that she has gone through and all, well not personally but I understand it. But I just don’t think the writers put a lot of thought into her character. To me, it is like the writers sat down and said that the whole world already loves this Clary Fray that Cassandra Clare has written so let’s not think about her too much. Um hello, she is still like the main character in this show. Without her, the show wouldn’t be the same. We could give the whole show to Emeraude Toubia (Izzy) just because she is beautiful and amazing. I wouldn’t mind watching a show with just her in it.
When it comes to comparing the show and the books, I don’t really know what to say here. They got the main plot going. Clary and Jace are siblings, Valentine wants to destroy the world, Jace tries to help Valentine on a boat, Simon being a vampire, and the fact that something happens that changes every thing when Sebastian Verlac comes into play. That all happens but so much more occurs in the show that I really don’t know what could happen next. There is this one event that happens in the books, if I believe correctly it is City of Glass, that changes a lot of stuff and makes people think some things. Even though this event is terrible and I wanted to come and ask Cassandra Clare why she did it, I was looking forward to it happening in the show. Guess what. It didn’t happen. And now I read that season 3 is supposed to be following book 4? So much is different that I think that is one of the reasons that I continue to watch the show.
I will give praises to all the directors and the writers. I found this season better than the last one. It was almost like the writers and all the directors that were brought in knew that they had to meet some sort of expectations that the fans were setting up so they brought in to the table. Each of the directors added their own little twist to the whole episode and you could really see the excitement through the episodes. Through all the praise, I do have to admit that I did prefer the first half of the season compared to the ending of the season. The first part of the season seemed to have a little more excitement and thrills to the plot while the second half dealt with relationships and love. Even though I love Magnus and Alec way too much, I do have to thank the writers for adding to the chain of events in 2B because it was perfect.
Overall, I would have to give season 2 of Shadowhunters a good, steady 3 out of 5. It was okay. The show isn’t one that I would go out of my way to watch. If I got the chance to meet the cast, I would love it but I don’t think that would be happening anytime soon. Just add that to the list. I’m still not sure if I am going to be checking out season 3 but with the times a changing, who knows. I might give it a go and completely love it.
Have you stayed caught up with this show? What did you think about this season? Did you enjoy season 1 or season 2 better? Could you believe that finale? Who do you ship on this show? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
Happy Reading,
“I seriously need to find out why I keep watching this show. I don’t know why. It’s terrible in so many ways but at the same time, I have this gut feeling telling me to continue on with the series.” this is me at this very moment. I just got around to watching the last episode but honestly… this season was a bit painful to me. It’s true that I’ve never been a fan, but at times I found the series at least a bit amusing. The only reason why I might want to continue with the third season would be the last episode :O

That last episode this season has me wondering if I want to watch the next season or not. I feel like a lot of people feel the same way like up about this show. They don’t know why they continue to watch this show but they do it anyway.
