Halloween Writing Contest Entry!

I was invited by the lovely Steph J over at Scale it Simple to participate in her Halloween Writing Contest. At first, I wasn’t sure if I would participate in something like this. After thinking it through, I thought I would take my paranormal, horror reading into good use and participate in this event. If you would like to participate in this event, go right ahead. To see the rules, check out Steph’s post to find out everything you need to know.

halloween

It was one of those nights on cemetery lane that made you feel electric with energy and somber with thought all at the same time. The air was crisp, dead leaves scattered as they ran underfoot and glided overhead, filling the night with noise. The moon was full and luminous casting an eerie light on the scene below. Halloween was in full swing, the streets were abuzz with hooded figures and lively children enjoying their annual candy hunt.

Hidden from the action at the end of the long lane of perfectly decorated houses stood the towering and dark-windowed number 13 cemetery lane. Behind it, the forest stood lightless and desolate, a depressing shadow on a lively scene. It was in this very house at this very moment that…

Ghost Town Avenue got their first vampire.

There had been rumors and warnings to all the young kids that they should never come over to the house because Vampire Morgan was living there, well as living as a vampire could.

As a young kid, Nicole Frayling was always fascinated in observing this house on Halloween. Unlike all the other kids her age, Nicole wasn’t petrified of Vampire Morgan. Their parents had grinded the thought of vampires biting kids necks and garlic is the only way to protect themselves.

Nicole always thought otherwise. She would continually bug her parents into taking her to this house every Halloween until she was 18, where she was living on her own, in a big town, far away from this dark, eerie, mystical home.

Oblivious to the fact that Vampire Morgan was tracking Nicole down, she went to the house with nothing but a camera and her phone. As long as Nicole had her phone, she was ready.

Nicole made her way down to the house, following the long path, through the dark, mystical woods. The wolves were crying at the full moon as Nicole grasped her phone tightly in her hand.

I can do this. I can do this. I can do this; Nicole says reiterating as she finally reaches the home.

Nicole could tell when she approached the property of Vampire Morgan. The wind died out, the warm, dense air turned to a chilly, light flowing air, and not one soul was there, other than Nicole’s.

She could hear the kids trick-or-treating from the other side of the woods. She could hear the screams from the young kids as they looked through the forest at the house. Parents would grab their kids arms and told them never to look over there again. Kids crying, screaming, and laughing took over the fact that Nicole was more scared than what she thought she was. Nicole never thought it would be as bad as it was. She took a deep breath and walked up the stairs to the front door.

Nicole didn’t even have to open the door, the wind blew the oak door, which had to be at least 300 years old.  Nicole poked her head through the door and she saw how flamboyant and impeccable. An 1800 Grand Piano stood right in the middle of the room, with a crystal chandelier hanging over top. Over to her right, carpeted stairs lead up to the second floor. Nicole could have sworn she could have heard someone but all over her emotions where everywhere. She didn’t know what to believe.

The door slammed right behind Nicole once she introduced herself to the house. The slam wasn’t a slow, hushed noise. The door shook the house, enough to make the chandelier swing from side to side. Instantaneously, the house stood still. Nicole could hear the screaming kids from the Halloween celebration. Nicole felt her phone vibrate in her hand, but it suddenly died as soon as she picked it up. Nicole felt something staring her down from somewhere in the house but she had no clue where.

Nicole gently walked into the room to the left off the door and on her tiptoes, she heard not one but several voices talking about some convention they recently got back from. Their harsh, quiet mumbles made it hard for her to hear everything that they were saying. Nicole pushed her ear against the door as she felt a hand push her hair to the side of her neck.

Nicole didn’t have time to react to the whole thing. The hand was cold – ice cold. Nicole had an idea on what it could be but as she turned, she never expected to see what she saw. There, standing at about 4’10 was a zombie. But this wasn’t like any ordinary zombie, a vampire zombie. The vampire zombie was leaning down to get to Nicole’s neck but she took off.

“Please don’t eat my friend. You are my guest. She is part of us. Well, at least she will be one day,” says a voice like fireworks over all of them.

Vampire Morgan, runs through Nicole’s mind as she approaches her. Nicole was trapped. The door was being cut off by Nicole friends but something told her she shouldn’t be afraid.

“We won’t hurt you,” said Morgan as she stroked Nicole’s hair. “Such nice hair you have. Maybe you could tell but when the woods being, we can’t leave. We are stuck here, unless we fly. But I’m old. I don’t like to fly. You are my way out of here.”

Vampire Morgan takes out her fangs and pushes all the vampire zombie out of the way but Nicole runs out. Nicole runs straight into the woods, where she was safe. For such old vampire/vampire zombies, they were swift. Nicole’s heart was beating as she makes her way to the woods. Morgan grabs Nicole’s leg as Nicole makes it to the woods. If she had her leg, Morgan could go and take these kids from their parents.

Nicole remembers her phone has a flash light, so she turns it on. Nicole blinds Vampire Morgan and runs back to the town.

“Never again,” Nicole says.

Hopefully you all enjoy that and make sure you check out all of the other entries for the contest. Let me know what you think down in the comments! What are you planning on being for Halloween? Are you celebrating Halloween? Do you attend any parties (I actually have one on Friday and I’m going to be a vampire – but not a vampire zombie.) Let me know that as well in the comments!

Happy Reading,

unnamed
